We were delighted to buy Surrey Moon at the Tattersalls Book 2 Yearling Sale with the help of the Clover’s and leading bloodstock agent, Billy Jackson-Stops. We were astounded when we bought the colt for 18 000 gns, an absolute steal! Occasionally horses slip under the radar (Surrey Mist a classic example), and we feel this is the case here.  

Surrey Moon’s pedigree is outstanding. His sire, French Derby winner, Study of Man, is the only son of the hugely influential Japanese super sire Deep Impact standing in England. The Damsire is German Derby winner Sea The Moon, son of the fabled Sea The Stars, considered one of the greatest ever to race.

The Granddam, Alla Speranza, was rated 107 and has produced offspring rated 115.  Half Sister Alla Stella is a 2-year-old already rated 99. The dam of Surrey Moon, Alla Luna, only ran once, finishing a close 2nd on debut to a mare who went on to be rated 110. Surrey Moon is her second foal.  

Surrey Moon is bred for middle distance, but he looks a racy type who is likely to run as a 2-year-old and is expected to start racing over 7 furlongs.
