9th Jan Update

No runners this week but we did go along to Kempton on Friday morning to watch Surrey Mist and Surrey Princess have a ‘race’ against each other over 10 furlongs. Surrey Mist (with Pat riding) was pretty fresh beforehand which is understandable considering he’s only had one race (back in July) while Princess (with Trevor Whelan onboard) was also a little on edge but once they got going they settled pretty quickly with Mist leading at a fair pace. Trevor pushed Princess to lead in the home straight and she ran well through the line whilst Mist needed a couple of taps from Pat to keep up to his work and just tired towards the end.

Surrey Princess was very calm afterwards, that’s the best we’ve seen her mentally so hopefully that calmness can be put to good use on Saturday where she will run at Lingfield in the 2.55. a class 6 handicap over 10 furlongs with Trevor due to ride her again. She has been entered into the February sales but we still retain options that we will discuss with the syndicate owners after the race this week.

Surrey Mist really seemed to enjoy the run, he was very pleased with himself afterwards, making a lot of noises and seemingly wanting to go out again ! He will get that chance in two weeks time when he’ll have another gallop and then we’ll make a decision on when and where he will make his three year old debut.

Surrey Charm is very chilled and continues to hack around the round gallop at Robin’s Farm. She’s still fairly weak and hasn’t grown a great deal since she left the stud but George will be stepping up her work a little from next week which normally is the kick start for a horses’ body development.

We have firmed up a date with George for all of the Princess, Mist and Charm horse owners to visit, meet each other, see the horses work and listen to the next plans so Saturday February 5th is the date for the diary.

We haven’t heard anything this week from Nicky but hopefully will be in touch next week and have some news on both Gran Luna and Surrey Quest. No new news on Surrey Belle, Surrey Knight and Surrey Noir.

Meanwhile Surrey Gold is staying at a small stud near Lambourn where he has his own box and patch of grass, a sort of an en-suite home! The grass is very wet at Hughie’s so this is a better option where he can wander in or out of cover as he sees fit. He’ll probably stay like that until mid February before coming back into training so we will organise a visit to Hughie’s early March to see Gold and Belle.

Good Luck to Princess and the owners this week – a team hat trick maybe?!!
