Flaming June
Hi All
We hope everyone is well and enjoying the sun. Thankfully The Derby wasn’t spoilt by protesters but it was a shame that so much security was in place that my usual tradition of watching the race from the starting stalls was spoilt as you couldn’t get anywhere near the track!
It was another quiet week for us although we did take some potential new owners to see Surrey Shadow and managed to see our other horses in Newmarket. Surrey Shadow looks fantastic and very chilled in his new yard. He’s been trotting for 2 weeks and from next week will step up to cantering with an eye on a later summer debut.
Surrey Knight’s work has been stepped up and he’s now doing two canters around Side Hill, so that is 2 miles worth of steady cantering. He looks fantastic and is answering every question so far. Surrey Noir has come out of his race very well and there are plenty of options available for him to race in June but we do need to wait for the right conditions.
Surrey Mist was sore after his run at York so it’s certainly a case of waiting for the right conditions for his next run. Kevin reiterated what a good run that was and is very happy with him. There are a number of options open, we just need some rain. Surrey Force is now in Machell Place and working on Warren Hill, he looks fantastic and is probably only 10 weeks away from his debut.
Over in East Ilsley, Surrey Charm has frustratingly got another dirty nose, hopefully it wont affect her for too long this time whilst Surrey Belle is very well and set for a return to the track although unfortunately it doesn’t look like the ground will soften anytime soon, so as the next race will be at Kempton and will be more of an educational run as she needs to learn to settle in her races if she’s going to reach the heights that the team at Summerdown think she’s capable of reaching.
No new news on the other horses.
its been a slightly below par 5 months and we’d hope for better results in the second part of the year. We still have 5 horses yet to make their debut, plus Surrey Knight’s return for only his 2nd run after a year off. We have two horses who we feel are handicapped competitively and hopefully after Surrey Belle’s next run it will be 3 to make their handicap debuts off decent marks, plus Surrey Quest, who had a very disappointing season but we feel we now have the answer to why. Surrey Mist has been the flagbearer and still has some exciting races ahead of him over the coming months.
