Let it Rain!

Unfortunately the lack of rain looks to have ruined the syndicate owner’s plans for the week.

Gran Luna wasn’t entered into the listed mares race at Cheltenham on Thursday as 2m 4f is her bare minimum distance but over quickening ground it just wouldn’t suit her. Looking at the forecast for Edinburgh, Surrey Gold, who looked in good shape when we visited Hughie’s on Friday has to be no better than 50/50 to continue with his entry into the Heritage Handicap at Musselburgh on Saturday when that decisions is made tomorrow. It was interesting to see that Surrey Gold’s half brother. Sheraz, was second in yesterday’s Sydney Cup, 2 miles in heavy ground – that certainly runs in the family! He won £200k for that 2nd!

It was good to see Surrey Belle on the gallops – she moves very well and really looks the part. She’s only 20 kg lighter than Surrey Gold ! She won’t grow too much more now but will start to fill out over the next few months and does look like she will get at least one run in Autumn.

Surrey Knight was given the all clear by the vet yesterday to resume cantering so that’s great news. Charlie will monitor him over the next couple of weeks as gradually increases the tempo and load. With regard to the German Derby – the next entry stage is Monday, Charlie thinks we should continue to pay as it’s still three months away and the promise he showed on debut warrants that. If he stays sound, wins next time round, then that race is very tempting indeed.

No real news on the other horses this week – we’re hoping to get Surrey Charm back to Kempton, there must be ground concerns about Surrey Mist week after, Surrey Noir is fine and Surrey Princess should be ok ground wise for Leicester on the 23rd.

Two other bits of news mind!  The Breeze Up Sale season starts tomorrow with the Craven Sale at Tattersalls and we will be looking to buy 2 two year olds if we find the right horse at the right price. The first will go into training with Tom Clover in Newmarket and the second will join Hughie. We are still looking for a NH horse to go into training with Toby Lawes but the main NH store sales don’t start until July. Please register your interest to avoid disappointment.

Secondly – if we don’t go to Scotland on Saturday we will be attending Newbury instead representing Surrey Racing in the syndicate village. It should be a good day with three Group races on the card plus we will also be parading Surrey Belle an hour before the first race at approx. 12.45.

Good Luck to Surrey Gold and connections if he runs on Saturday – there are plenty of options for him including Newbury on Sunday so eyes peeled!
