May Day Update
Evening – Happy May Day
A very quiet week with not much to report, we need rain which no doubt will come in bucket loads on May 25th – the Surrey Racing Syndicate Owners and Trainers Golf Day!
Surrey Charm missed her date with Kempton after picking up a bug, the same one that has kept Surrey Mist out of action. It’s not serious and will pass so a bit more patience from the syndicate owners is needed there.
Surrey Knight has been doing 2 canters a day up Warren Hill this week and starting to get his mojo back. Incidentally we watched the Group 3 Bavarian Classic today where the German Derby favourite So Moonstruck seemed to struggle in the soft ground and finished 4th – and so he’s been replaced at the top of the market by the today’s winner Lavello.
Surrey Princess is well but she seems to go better fresher so we’ll look to have her back out in about 2-3 weeks time. The other horses are either winding down for their summer break or waiting for rain!
Some news about Surrey Thunder who had a career ending injury which has now healed well enough for him to be rehoused and has settled in really well at a farm run by a rehoming charity in Australia. He’ll be retrained to be a show horse and has a ex - Shadwell horse called Raqeeq as his buddy. You can read more about the charity’s work on https://www.racedhorses.com/
We had our eyes on 4 horses at the Guineas sale this week – unfortunately we couldn’t compete with the other bidders and actually won’t pay over the odds for any horse. The Guineas Breeze Up was strong, breaking median records, mainly because there are a lot of new buyers looking to take horses overseas where prize money is better. We will look again next week at the Breeze Up sale in France (Arqana 13th) as well the start of the NH store sales (10th in Ireland) with the last Breeze Up sale in Ireland on the 19th May.
