November 24th Update
Firstly, a very warm welcome to 5 new owners this week ! Rob, Hazelle, Mick, David and Paul, it’s great to have you all involved and we look forward to meeting you at the yard or the racetrack.
Surrey Quest was 100% fine after his Cheltenham exploits last week and really seemed to enjoy the run. We have spent this week mulling over options for him, debating which big races to target, fielded a call from the press, and after all that we are still a little undecided. The handicapper will give him a new mark on Tuesday, and we’ll discuss further with Toby and Kevin. If he runs in the Scottish National, we wouldn’t want any more weight, but if Aintree is the target he’ll need to improve 8 pounds from his current mark (which will be less after Tuesday). Deciding the end race first, means we can work back to the next one, which was going to be The Mandarin, but there’s also potentially the Welsh Grand National or the Warwick Classic. It’s fantastic to be having those discussions and it’s very exciting for the owners. He’s currently a best price 66-1 chance for the Grand National !
Surrey Lord worked well with Kevin this week and we look forward to him racing again soon, probably December 3rd at Southwell whilst Sea Presenting has settled in nicely. We have an owners visit organised to see her this Saturday and will find out the plans for her first run debut rules race which possibly could be January 6th at Ludlow. We think Sea Presenting will be sold out by this time next week so if anyone else was to come forward for her then they would have to go on a waiting list.
We do however some shares still available in 3 other horses. Surrey Fire is well and back on the gallops. Due to owner circumstances, we have 10% available in him if anyone wishes to join that syndicate. Surrey Fire is a 3-year-old Masar gelding in training with Hughie Morrison. He ran once as a two-year-old finished 2nd behind Royal Ascot winner Going The Distance, and then ran 4 times last season, winning once at Lingfield. He’s rated 81 and looks sure to progress with age and hopefully will be running in Saturday races next season. The share price is as follows, for 10% - £8000, 7.5% - £6400, 5% -£4300, 2.5% - £2250. Please get in touch if you are interested.
The two yearlings in the UK are doing everything that is being asked of them. Surrey King only has one small 5% share left (or 2 x 2.5% only) after attracting new owners this week so be quick if you want to snap that last one. We will also start a waiting list in case any of those committed pull out.
Surrey Etoile in France is the last to have shares available, still 3 x 8% in him. He’s progressing well and ahead of the other two yearlings at this stage but as we know that can all change. We are planning to go and watch Surrey Noir’s next race (and maybe last for us ) in Chantilly on December 10th and will go and see Etoile, anyone interested in a share is welcome to join us.
Surrey Shadow has now been given the go ahead to resume galloping following his injury which is great news and all being well he’ll be back on a racetrack in February before a crack at Doncaster’s Spring Handicap at the end of March.
No racing this week but looking forward to catching up with the Sea Presenting owners on Saturday.
