Owners at Royal Ascot !
We’re just about recovered from two days at Royal Ascot – I don’t know how some of you do it every day especially considering Friday’s temperatures! Two cracking days but alas no prize at the end but a great experience to be an owner at the greatest flat meeting in the UK.
First up was Surrey Gold on Tuesday, who unfortunately was sensibly pulled up be Sean Levey after he just stopped mid race. He was discovered to have a heart murmur and be suffering from heat stress, probably related to each other, which really did worry Hughie, that in turn had us worried. Thankfully he was fine the next day and is sound. (similar to Dehydration Dave !) He’ll have a few weeks rest but I’m sure he’ll have a hectic Autumn campaign on the soft. He did look great beforehand, winning the best turned out (or was that the owners?!) and Hughie was pretty confident - a case of we’ll never know.
Surrey Mist ran a blinder to finish only 2.5 lengths from the winner in a close finish in this year’s most competitive 12 furlong handicap. He finished just out of the money in 7th but those first 7 were ahead of the rest and there’s no doubting some of them will go on to be Group horses with the winner costing nearly £600k. He’ll have no problems at 10 or 12 furlongs so potentially next up for him will be at Glorious Goodwood at the end of July.
Congrats to our resourceful owners who ran the gauntlet of Ascot’s parade ring police as we only received 6 parade ring passes ! A fantastic turnout in team colours for both days – well done all !!
