Royal Ascot Week Update
Surrey Mist is steadily getting fitter and that will continue with loads of cantering, he won’t do too much galloping to protect his ligament injury. Kevin is happy with his progress and all going well he’ll be back on a racecourse in July, with a class 2 handicap pencilled in at Ascot on July 13th. His opening mark this year is 99 so wherever he runs it’s going to be a tough ask having not run since May 2023 and we won’t really know how the injury is until he’s pushed in a race. There’s going to be a lot of excitement seeing him back on the track, but there’s also going to be some very apprehensive syndicate owners.
Surrey Belle’s handicap mark was left unchanged by the handicapper so she remains at an official mark of 66. Belle and Surrey Fire have had the sniffles in the past week so that may put Belle back until July, Fire is still on course for 10th/11th July. Surrey Noir has had his export bloods taken and looks like he going to be shipped to France at the end of the week.
No new news on the other flat horses, plenty of possible races coming up at the end of the month and into July, see the list below.
Surrey Fortune is at Jackie’s in Cornwall, he’ll have a couple more weeks down there. Surrey Lord has had his shoes put on this week and he’ll start trotting. He’s been on the walker for the past 2 weeks so is already shedding some of his winter excesses!
Surrey Quest trotted up sound for the vet this week and will now go on the walker for the next 2 weeks. After that, because he hasn’t had a break in the sun yet as he’s been confined due to his injury, he’ll be turned out for some quality down time. It does mean that he’ll probably be later to return when the season starts but that won’t be a hindrance with some decent targets on the agenda for him as the season progresses.
We’re at Royal Ascot on Tuesday and Wednesday so if anyone wants to catch up over a drink then give use a shout. Unfortunately we don’t have any representation this year but the racehorse owners have enjoyed the festival many times with plenty of good memories. not least with Surrey Mist who came within 2.5 lengths of winning the King George V stakes 2 years ago. Next year we are sure we’ll be back.
