September’s 1st Update

Injuries are a part of all sport and horse racing is no different but it does feel we have had more than a fair share of them this year which is extremely frustrating for all of us. Unfortunately it seems that Surrey Noir has been the latest victim as he’s struggling to get over his foot injury. Noir was given the go ahead by the vet to resume training but after a few gallops he’s back in discomfort again. Charlie isn’t sure what the problem is so he will require an MRI tomorrow and then we’ll have more of an idea of what the issue is but I fear that it will wipe out the main targets this year. We will be back in touch with the syndicate owners when we know more next week.

Another who we have discovered has foot problems is Surrey Charm and now she is wearing special shoes which encourage hoof growth. If anything she is in more discomfort from this than any stress related injuries. Considering all of her issues that have come to light in the past week or so its pretty remarkable that she’s well in herself and they are all treatable so we feel the future looks very bright.

Surrey Knight is enjoying life in Culworth Ground Farm. He’s being allowed out into the paddocks for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening but not before being lightly sedated to make sure he’s nice and calm otherwise he runs the risk of injuring himself by running about. That hour will grow by 15 minutes each week as part of a very gradual rehabilitation but he does look absolutely fantastic. The farm is a big consignor of yearlings to sales which are taking place from now until the end of October. Sophie who runs the farm welcomes us to visit but asks that we wait until after the sales season when the team there will have more time to show us around. We will sort a visit out in October.

Steve visited the Baden Baden sale this weekend, unfortunately we were outbid on a couple of horses that we had earmarked so he has come back empty handed. We will continue to look at all of the yearling sales but the two we feel we have the best chance of picking up a well bred yearling for decent value is at Tattersalls Book 2 and Arqana’s October sale.

No new news on Surrey Gold, Surrey Quest, Surrey Belle or Gran Luna.

Surrey Lord is well and has been entered into the Goffs Sales Bumper in March 2023 – a race that probably just comes a little too early for Surrey Fortune who probably wont be ready to run until Easter time.

Surrey Mist has settled in well and Kevin feels he will be ready to run later this month as long as the going is soft so that’s good to hear but we wouldn’t have thought with all the goings on over the past few weeks that Surrey Mist would be the next horse to run!

We are conscious that now the summer is over we need to arrange some visits for you all so watch this space for dates over the coming months.
