Welcome 2024!
A happy new Year to everyone, fingers crossed for a very exciting 2024 with plenty of winners!
If we continue in the same way as we have in the last 6 months it’s going to be a fantastic year ahead - July to December – 16 runs, 5 wins and 6 places !
We had bad luck with severe Injuries, the worse for Surrey Knight (retired) and Surrey Mist (scan to come this month), plus niggling issues for Surrey Lord and Surrey Fortune which have stretched all of our patience, especially Surrey Knight who could have been very good judging by his debut and breeding.
Surrey Racing Horse of the Year award goes to Surrey Quest, with him, it felt like we had a new horse this year, sorting out his issue, changing trainer and then 2 from 2 including the Mandarin Trophy! There’s certainly more to come from him if he stays fit and healthy.
So in 2024 can Surrey Mist follow Quest and return to become the highest rated flat horse we’ve ever had? Will Surrey Fire and Surrey Force build on their impressive debuts? Will the 3 horses yet to debut (Shadow, Lord, Fortune) keep their owner’s dream alive? Hughie has always said Surrey Belle will hit the heights as a 4 year old, is Surrey Charm’s future on soft ground (and determined by Stromberg!), Charlie thinks Surrey Noir can finish next season rated 85-90, he got the last season spot on!
We will be looking for the next Surrey Racing horse in the Spring Breeze Ups, who will be French bred and based in Chantilly with Tim Donworth, and possibly we could be looking for a horse in the UK if there is sufficient demand.
Off the track we will organise owner’s visits in February/March for all of the flat horses, we have the Surrey Racing Golf Day pencilled in for May 22nd, and as always our trainers always welcome you to visit your horse.
There will be ups and downs along the way that’s for sure, one request, make sure you celebrate the wins with gusto as they are such a precious commodity.
Onwards and Upwards!
