World Cup Final Day

Live Sport at times defies belief and today was no different – congrats to Argentina ...

It’s certainly been a cold week but thankfully the mercury has started to rise and racing will be back on this coming week with some additional fixtures added later in the week. Racing takes a 3 day break before restarting on Boxing Day. Thankfully we haven’t been impacted by the cancellations and we are still hopeful of one more run from Surrey Quest this year. Races up to and including December 30th will have the entries confirmed this week up until Friday, and then for races on the 31st the entry date is Boxing Day.

Unfortunately the weather hasn’t helped the horses at home pushing on with their work so Surrey Belle for example has had a fairly easy week and not really race ready yet. Hughie will stretch her over the next few days before making a decision on Friday as to whether to run at Kempton in January or give her a month off, it’s very 50-50.

The two yearlings, Surrey Fire and Surrey Force are well and settling in to their respective yards. They are both trotting away and enjoying getting out with their new friends!

We went to see Surrey Lord this week who was being ridden by Kevin Brogan. Kevin rode him about a month ago and said he’s really improved in that time. He’s now been moved up to the main horse yard and is out and about with the better, more experienced horses. The March target is still the plan but Toby thinks it’s probably unlikely that he’ll have a run before the Goffs Bumper at Newbury but obviously there’s plenty that can change in the coming three months.

Surrey Fortune is still on track to debut slightly later, he’ll have a bumper in late Spring. Considering his development, we will raise his share price on January 1st.

Most of the horses will have an easy time over the next two weeks as staff leave the yards to return to their families over the festive period. When they return the horses all change to a year older (January 1st are all horses birthdays). In January, Surrey Charm will move to Hughie’s, Surrey Noir will be back galloping, Surrey Knight’s downtime will be over and before we know it, Cheltenham would have been and gone and the flat season upon us!
