Surrey Noir made a very solid debut in March ‘23 at Kempton, looking very much at ease with racing, followed by a very close 2nd at Chelmsford and then not handling the firm ground at Doncaster. After poor run at Leicester (dirty scope) he was given time to recuperate, and then was desperately unlucky to be beaten by a nose at Kempton in August. He went one back over course and distance with a impressive win in September. Upped to a rating of 75 and following a season where he wasn’t out of the first 5 in 7 runs Noir is taking a well earned break.
2024 hasn’t really clicked for Noir so he has moved to Chantilly and joined Tim Donworth’s stable to race in France and benefit from French Premiums and has already taken advantage by coming a short nosed second in a conditions race, and followed up with a good third and then winning at Vannes. He’s been given an extremely competitive opening French mark and handicaps are on the agenda now where he’ll be hard to beat against similar rated horses.
