Remembrance Day Update

The highlight of this past week was going to see Surrey Quest and Gran Luna at Nicky Henderson’s and then a short pop in to see Surrey Fire who is being broken in by Ben de Haan the former jockey from many years ago.

Nicky H was, well, Nicky H. Surrey Quest looked lean and ready to run. Nicky said his jumping has improved a lot over the last few months as when he first started to be schooled, he was pretty straight backed but now he’s learnt how to use his body to jump properly. We managed to get him to come up with a plan which is for Quest to make his chasing debut next Sunday (20th) at either Uttoxeter or Exeter, but since then an entry for Quest has appeared for Market Rasen on Thursday!  We are assuming he’ll run next Sunday.

Gran Luna looked a picture in her winter coat. That won’t be clipped because she’s out of training and we don’t want to give the impression at the sales that she could go racing again. I know some owners plan to go along to the sale in Newmarket on the 30th – anyone can go along and it’s well worth seeing how the sales work if you are at a loose end.

Surrey Fire looked super chilled when we saw him especially considering he’s just a baby. He’s all in proportion and has already been ridden on the gallops at Lambourn. He’s also showing a little bit of attitude on those gallops which is what we want to see. He will move into Hughie’s next week to further his education. We have had a number of enquires from existing and new owners and if those take up the shares requested then we will be sold out so do let us know if you are fence sitting!

We did ask Hughie about Surrey Belle – he’s gradually building up her work but he’s not overly optimistic that she’ll run before Christmas. If that’s the case he will back off and give her a break and then bring her back to make her debut at the end of March on turf.

No new news on the rest.

On Friday, and possibly Saturday, we’ll be at Ascot for the Discover Ownership Day, if you are there come and say hello and just repeating here that

Ascot Racecourse is delighted to offer syndicate/club members an exclusive offer to come racing. Members can enjoy a 2 for 1 King Edward VII enclosure badges and use of the Owners and Trainers’ Trackside Bar at Ascot on either day: £40 for two badges on the Friday and £45 for the Saturday. To book, please contact the owners and trainers’ team ownersandtrainers@ascot.com

And then our NH season starts – with Surrey Quest attempting a team hat-trick following Surrey Mist’s last two wins - I don’t believe we’ve had three Surrey Racing winners in a row (Surrey Blaze did win 3 on the spin) so fingers crossed for next Sunday (or Thursday!!).
