A Sad Update

Some days are better than others so lets hope today was better than yesterday awful day.

Unfortunately our star horse Surrey Pride was fatally injured 3 furlongs out from the line at York yesterday. For those of us there it wasn’t pleasant, thoughts to the owners, but even more thoughts to Joe, Chris, Dave, Lil and the team at Tuite Racing who live with the horses daily and really do form close bonds with them. He was a real champion for us, 4 superb wins, rated 96, he will be missed.

Surrey Gold encountered a few issues in running at Ascot yesterday including losing a shoe. Richard Kingscote reported a slight wheeze as well which we have heard before but it’s quite possible that’s just a lack of fitness. Looking back in the cold light of day, finishing only 3 lengths off the winner, lack of preparation, a very muddling race and losing a shoe on ground that was only a little slower than good, it was actually an encouraging performance despite us all hoping for a double on the day, Hughie echoed that last night.

Having said that it does again go to show how much we do need to enjoy the good days.

Not a lot to report on the others, Surrey Knight is back to galloping again after his small downtime break, we will arrange another visit to see him especially as we have some new owners involved. Surrey Mist is having a stalls test tomorrow, before racing at Lingfield. This is a test the BHA have imposed on Mist that he needs to pass before going back to the racetrack. He’s already put a fair bit of weight back on so that’s a good sign. Surrey Princess continues her rehab and the jumps pair are in the final few weeks of their holiday. We will be in touch with Nicky soon so find out his plans there.

RIP Surrey Pride and come on England!
