Halloween Update

Happy Halloween !

A quieter week at Surrey Racing HQ this week but still plenty to look forward to.

No word from Nicky H yet on when entries for Surrey Quest or Gran Luna will be made, we know the syndicate owners can’t wait to see them in action. We will be speaking with Nicky tomorrow so we’ll find more then but there are plenty of options over the coming weeks. No new news on Surrey Knight who will be kept up to his trotting work for the next two months or Surrey Mist who will be following a similar pattern.

Surrey Gold’s season is over, but it’s been a pretty good season winning two races and rising in the handicap from 75 to 90. Training Gold and keeping him race fit has been far from straightforward for Hughie and he genuinely has struggled to get him 100% fit for the win at York, so to win in the manner he did was pretty amazing, obviously there’s absolutely nothing wrong with his engine! Despite the latest 6lb rise in his rating we do feel we still have a big heritage handicap to win off his current mark of 90. After that the handicapper may catch up with us and as it is so hard to win 2 heritage handicaps in a season, a class 1 race in the soft in France or Germany would be the target. The logic for going abroad is simply that the Listed races over there are easier to win than ones here and the prize money is so much better.

We have an exciting week ahead starting tomorrow where Surrey Princess runs in the 1.05 at Kempton, a class 6 handicap over a mile, with Trevor Whelan riding. Unfortunately we’ve been drawn stall 10 of the 10 runner race, we do seem to be having some bad luck with the draw this season.

Next Sunday we have our first ever yearling parade at Langshot Stud in Chobham. Surrey Belle, Surrey Charm and Surrey Noir have been enjoying their time there, winding down after the rigours of the sale season and now we are really excited about showing them off. The invite is open to everyone, syndicate owners or those who want to become a horse race owner and live the dream. Feel free to come along and see the yearlings at the start of their career. Hughie, Charlie and George will all be in attendance, along with Anthony Stroud, so a great chance to talk to them about all things racing. We will be there from 10 am to midday,, and there will be champagne and bacon rolls on the go – what’s not to like! So far we are numbering around 40 but there’s plenty of room for more!

Good luck to all of the Princess owners, let’s hope the penny drops with her and we finally get a win from her.
