A Halloween Update

The main activity this week was the ‘will we or won’t we’ saga of potentially selling Surrey Mist! There was a lot of discussions leading right up to the day of the sale especially when Mist failed the x-rays for the Australian buyers ruling out the really lucrative offers. When prospective buyers had been looking over the previous 24 hours they had been put off by any valuation over 300k although we would have been happy to try our luck with a reserve at 300k gns but didn’t want to run the risk that if we didn’t reach that level we would have to pay reserve commission to Tattersalls (we asked Tatts to waive that fee but they refused). With the NH buyers seemingly being the best option we decided we can wait a year and pulled him out of the sale. Mist will take a break now and then come back early in 2023 with the Group 3 Prix Exbury at Paris’ St Cloud racecourse on Saturday March 18th.

In other news we have bought two lovely well bred colts from the recent yearling sales, both foals from top class sires who were both Derby winners! Welcome to Surrey Force and Surrey Fire ! Details will be sent out this week. The initial introductory price will only be available through November so please do get in touch if you wish to purchase any shares. We are hosting a sales morning at Langshot Stud in Chobham on Sunday November 27th where our two yearlings will be paraded, along with Surrey Fortune, our NH horse who has shares available, and Surrey Charm who is resident until the end of the year so please let us know if you wish to attend that morning, bacon rolls and a glass of fizz available!

Surrey Force (Le Havre x Murviel) to go into training with Kevin Philippart de Foy

Surrey Fire (Masar x Sweet Selection) to go into training with Hughie Morrison

Surrey Charm is very well, back to kicking and bucking in the field. She will stay at Langshot Stud until the New Year gradually building back up using the walker daily, eating well and being turned out when the weather allows. She will stay at the stud until the New Year. Surrey Noir is on exactly the same strategy at Charlie’s, an hour on the walker in the morning and then again in the evening.

Surrey Belle is slowly being put through a more rigorous routine and taking it well so far. Hughie still isn’t sure she’ll run this side of Christmas but we’ve been patient so far so an extra few weeks aren’t going to hurt if that’s the case. We’ll know more later in the month. We’ve also arranged an owners morning at Hughie’s on January 28th where we shall see our three horses at work there, put that date in your diary but we’ll reach out for numbers nearer the time.

Not too much news on the other horses, we hope to see Surrey Quest on the track soon but the ground is still against him, virtually all over the country,  however we are looking forward to seeing the owners at Nicky’s next week – on the 9th – 09.15 meet at Seven Barrows.

Enjoy the week ahead
