A Winning Update!

It’s been a while but finally we were back in the winners enclosure on Monday after 4 months without passing the line first. For sure its been a frustrating time with hard ground, injuries and some subjective race planning which is why we celebrate when that elusive win comes along. A what fine style it was at Windsor when Surrey Mist, with a bit of cajoling from Danny Muscat, comfortably won a competitive class 3 handicap over 12 furlongs on easing ground.

Mist looked really well in his first outing for Kevin Philippart de Foy whose team exuded confidence beforehand so we thought we may see something special and we weren’t let down as he chased the early pace set by Bad Company, hitting the front 2 furlongs out and really never looked like being beaten, winning easing down by 2.5 lengths. It’s a lovely course at Windsor, win or lose they look after the owners really well and with our record now 2 from 2 there we will be returning!

Champagne Moment!

Surrey Mist came out of his race well and we now await to see what the handicapper made of his performance on Tuesday, although the Racing Post marked that performance a career high 101, 17 pounds better than his last performance at Goodwood. If the handicapper puts us up too much then the next race may be a Listed Race in France, with the Prix Vulcain at Deauville on Wednesday October 19th favoured and if he’s lenient then an entry will be made into the November Handicap at Doncaster on November 5th.

No racing this week for us but we do have a few visits to look forward to starting on Saturday with a visit to see Surrey Belle at Hughie’s. There’s room for a few more people if you’d like to join the Surrey Charm and Belle owners – just let us know.

It’s been confirmed for a 09.15 meet for coffee with Surrey Belle on the gallops at 09.40. The address is below, please park up at the main house.

Summerdown, East Ilsley
Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 7LB

There’s also some room the following week to see Surrey Fortune and Surrey Knight so if you do wish to come and join us then please let us know. That will be a 09.00 meet at Billy’s, followed by 10.30 at Culworth Grounds Farm.

The only other news is Surrey Noir came back out of hospital on Monday evening and he’s well. The inserted screw should speed up the healing process so fingers crossed we see him on the track soon.

We did look at a few yearlings last week but we couldn’t believe the strength of the sale, it’s simply staggering that prices are up 30% when we are suffering a global economic downturn. Book 2, 3 and 4 all run from tomorrow until Friday so we will be scouring the book and yearlings to see whether we can buy within budget next week.
