Mist - Sold Out - Weekly Update

Firstly a big welcome to Dawn, the latest racehorse syndicate owner to join our merry band!  She joins as an owner of Surrey Mist who is now completely sold out. We took Dawn to see Mist on Friday and he was in great shape, he’s forward for a leggy two year, very straight forward and I’m sure the syndicate owners are going to have a lot of fun with him. He’ll hopefully have a barrier trial this week and then we will assess where we are but it feels like he’ll be making his debut over 7 furlongs but those 2 year old races don’t start until late May so a little more patience is required.

How good is that we can now have 6 owners on the course from tomorrow with outside hospitality - fantastic news and we can’t wait to meet you all again. We’re sure demand will outstrip supply so if we have more than 6 requests then we will limit each racehorse owner to one badge each, and if we still have more than 6 requests then we will randomly draw the names out of a hat. Those who miss out will get priority for the next race. Unfortunately our hands are tied until restrictions are lifted by the government so please bear with us, it’s going to be impossible to keep everyone happy – but we will continue to beg and plead with racecourses, trainers and owners to use other allocations wherever we can.

The timing is perfect for Gran Luna owners as she has an entry to run on Thursday at Cheltenham in a Class 1 Listed Mares Novice hurdle over 2.5 miles. It’s the first race on the card at 1.30 pm. With Nicky at Aintree over the past few days we will wait and speak to him tomorrow to get an idea behind his thinking especially as he has three entered into the race. She has been working well without any issues so fingers cross we have her problems under control and she can perform like the quality mare we know she is.

It’s just so exciting to be able to see the yellow and blue silks back on the track and quite possibly we will have 5 horses running in the next three weeks and we bullish on all of them ! We’re sure this is the best set of horses we’ve ever had and feedback about those horses from the trainers has all been very positive.

Surrey Princess really surprised us this week, we thought her work on the gallop was simply sensational. She looks so good now, all of her body is in proportion, she’s still a little buzzy, but the Baker team feel this is manageable, although she still walk to the start from now on. They feel a more experienced jockey like Pat Cosgrave will make a better partner for her, and she’s very likely to return to racing by the end of the month, probably over 10 furlongs. We will only know for sure how she is once she races again.

We went to see Surrey Knight on Saturday, he’s just so chilled – he was asleep when we got there! He continues to do everything that is asked of him and it was great to see him work over 8 furlongs with sold older horses. He’s a big horse (especially considering he’s a May foal) and simply not fazed by anything. Charlie, who couldn’t be happier with Knight, is happy to have small groups go to the yard, You must see Newmarket in action if you haven’t seen it – we’re not sure if this is an oxymoron but it feels like an organised mad house ! We have a breakfast planned on May 22nd – and after seeing Knight we will try to organise a private tour of the National Stud, hopefully that will be a great day out.

No real news on Surrey Gold and Surrey Pride, Joe will make an entry made on Wednesday for Epsom on the 20th, and Hughie is probably going to settle for Leicester as the rain hasn’t really come yet for an earlier option. Surrey Quest is the same – a ‘brute’ of a horse who is waiting for a bit of rain for some grass work, and then an entry for him this month.

With only one horse left with shares available and sale season among us we have changed our thinking now and will probably look to buy a 2 year old breeze up horse at the forthcoming sales which start tomorrow and run until the end of May. If you are interested in another share then please let us know.

Good Luck to Gran Luna and all the racehorse syndicate connections this week!
