Easter Update
Happy Easter !
Starting with a recap that the Surrey Racing Syndicate Owners’ 2nd Surrey Racing Golf Day will be on Thursday May 27th at the Silvermere Golf Course in Cobham, teeing off at 11, a late lunch, and then to cap the day, there’s evening racing at Sandown, which has three class 1 races including the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard.
We spoke to Nicky H and he’s pleased that Gran Luna is fine and been working well without any further problems. Nicky wants to do more work with her on the grass and would like a bit more rain, as the ground at home is pretty quick at the moment. Provided the rain arrives he will start looking for races at the end of next week, which are likely to be over 2m 4f. Until she runs again, we won't know how serious the bleeding problem is but he is very hopeful. The main thing is that she comes out of the next race having run well and with no further bleeding. Surrey Quest is also well and doing plenty of work to get his weight off. Like Luna, Nicky would like to give a couple more runs on the grass gallops before he debuts but he’s is very pleased with Quest and assures us he’ll be making his debut later this month.
We saw Surrey Pride on Friday where he had a fast work out on the gallops. Chris, who was riding him, said he seemed to float along, he’s certainly got an aura about him that wasn’t there last season. He’s in great shape, his coat his shiny, and he just seems more at ease with everything around him. All roads lead to Epsom on the 20th.
No new news about Surrey Princess and Surrey Mist (the Bakers are in Bahrain this week), and Surrey Knight continues to go about his business with his normal panache. Meanwhile Surrey Gold is keeping up his hard work on the gallops and Hughie has said that he’s now ready to run. He think’s he’d like a bit of cut in the ground so if we do get rain this week then there’s a good chance to may look for an earlier entry that the ones on the 23rd/24th.
From April 12th, 6 racehorse owners will be allowed at the race course with outside hospitality which is fantastic news but I’m sure demand will outstrip supply! We have reluctantly decided if we have more than 6 requests then we won’t attend so we wont be able to host you i’m afraid. We will limit each syndicate owner to one badge each, and if we still have more than 6 requests then we will randomly draw the names out of a hat. Those who miss out will get priority for the next race. Unfortunately our hands are tied until restrictions are lifted by the government so please bear with us, it’s going to be impossible to keep everyone happy.
Finally – Breeze Up Sale season is nearly among us – if any syndicate or potential racehorse owner is interested in buying a share in a breeze up horse then please do get in touch. We probably feel it would be better to wait for the yearling sales season in October before buying another horse, but if we do have interest then we’d be very happy to buy a 2 year old in the next month so please let us know your intentions.
Enjoy the chocolate eggs!
