Weekly Update - 12th Sept

Firstly a really big welcome to our latest new owner, Phil, who we’re looking forward to meeting at the racecourse. We’re also excited to catching up with the NH horse syndicate owners on Tuesday at SevenBarrows – there’s going to be over 20 owners there to watch Gran Luna and Surrey Quest work out and then back to Nicky’s drawing room for a drink and a chat about what lies ahead this season.  

Surrey Gold has been impressing Hughie on the gallops this week and we think the Autumn target should be the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket on October 8th. It would be good for him to have a prep run before that although we do need some rain to come but have made entries this week at Newbury, both 12 furlong races, on Friday in the 4.05, the Dubai Duty Free Handicap (Class 2) and Saturday in the 4.35 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Handicap (Class 3). Note, the going is on the firm side of good right now and there’s no rain forecast so unless the forecast changes we’ll be looking into the following week where there is a suitable race at Newmarket on the 23rd.  

George is very happy with Surrey Princess and Surrey Mist. He’s aiming to take them both to Kempton for a racecourse gallop the week after next and then look to make entries following that. Looking at the options, they are limited for Princess as there aren’t many novice races about, so we’ll go to Lingfield on the 30th, she may not be 100% ready, or like the all weather, but after this race she’ll get a handicap mark and that opens up a lot more options later in October. Surrey Mist’s ideal next run also looks to be on the 30th at Salisbury but there are more options for him and we can another look after his Kempton workout.  

Surrey Knight continues to work twice daily up Warren Hill and is physically pretty strong, although he’s still a big baby! In about 2 weeks time Charlie will work him a tad faster and if he handles that then he’ll be looking for a date to debut!

We’ll see the NH owners on Tuesday and good luck to the Gold squad if he runs at the end of the week!
