Happy Jubilee

A quieter week for syndicate owners on the track and next week promises to be the same with no runners until the week after that.

Unfortunately Surrey Fortune is spending a few days at the vet to be treated for Colic. The term Colic covers a number of conditions relating to a horse’s gut but the better news is that he has Impaction Colic. Fortunately, this is one of the more treatable types of Colic (unlike a badly twisted gut) and once treated there should be no further issues. Billy described it as severe constipation where the gut gets blocked with food causing severe stomach cramps and discomfort for the horse. The most likely causes are dehydration or a change of foodstuff and this often happens when a horse suddenly changes environment and If left untreated it can be serious, but Billy recognised it immediately and took him to the vet.

We visited Toby this week, and he remains very enthusiastic about Surrey Lord who really is a big imposing horse. Apparently he is the biggest eater Toby has ever known and gets very protective of his food if anyone walks in his box when he is eating. He’s now been broken in, cantering with ease. He has a really long stride and will need the galloping courses once he starts racing. Toby will put him away in about 2-3 weeks time until September when all being well he will start cantering properly in preparation for a spring Bumper.

There’s not a great deal to update on the other horses, we are doing the Royal Ascot rain dance for Surrey Gold, it certainly worked this weekend but it needs to be a wet week ahead. Surrey Mist will have a final spin around Kempton this week to get him spot on for his big date at Ascot with both Gold’s and Mist entries this week. Before that we think we’ve found a good race for Surrey Charm on the 13th at Lingfield, a fillies only sire restricted race over 7 furlongs so hopefully she’ll get in that and step up from her debut.

incredibly since Christmas we’ve finished 1st or 2nd in 66% of the races !!

Enjoy the week ahead
