New Horses Update !

No runs this week but we did enjoy last Thursday’s racecourse gallop for Surrey Princess and Surrey Mist at Kempton Park. Both of them looked in pretty good shape with Surrey Princess probably the pick. She will now run on Thursday at Lingfield in a class 5 fillies only novice stakes to be run over a mile with Trevor Whelan booked for the ride. This will be last novice run before she gets a mark to move into handicaps.

Surrey Mist had a good work out at Kempton on Thursday alongside a 2 year old called Warhol but he was pretty fresh and his mind wasn’t totally on the job. We had a chat with George afterwards and feel that he maybe we should think about having him gelded in the winter. However, it transpired that Pat had a nightmare getting Mist in to the horsebox to come home, and by the time they got home Pat and Mist were a sweaty wreck! We are therefore considering getting him gelded straight away, letting him start his winter break early and therefore bringing him back earlier as a three year old.

Surrey Knight has been working well and he’ll be making his debut in 3-4 weeks time, Surrey Gold is also well and hopefully looking forward to seeing him run on October 8th. He was dropped 2 pounds this week by the handicapper to 84 so we will consider class 3 handicaps if he doesn’t make it into Newmarket or York’s class 2 races.

Surrey Quest had a very minor setback this week when he made a noise during some harder training, and after being scoped he needed his palette cauterised. It is a small procedure and will put him off his work for a week, but he’s pretty fit and it won’t alter his hurdling debut which will come when the ground softens. Gran Luna is absolutely fine and we should see her on the track on the next 4 weeks.

We’ve also been active in the sales and welcome Surrey Charm and Surrey Belle to the stables!  They are both gorgeous looking fillies with Surrey Belle being the better bred of the pair. We haven’t decided on where they will go into training yet but it’s likely Surrey Belle will be trained in Lambourn and Surrey Charm in Surrey. We are also looking for a horse to be trained in Newmarket. Both right now are at Langshot Stud in Surrey where they will stay until we show them off at our Racehorse Owners Yearling Parade early November.
