Mid September

The syndicate owners enjoyed a lovely lunchtime visit to Toby Lawes’ yard on Friday to see a gorgeous looking Surrey Lord and some of Toby’s other charges whilst supping champagne and snacking on canapes!  It coincided with National Racehorse Week and so there were other owners and members of the public in attendance. Toby said he was besotted with Surrey Lord who is in great shape, although still immature. Toby said he’s a bit of a ‘boyo’ and even had to double check he was a gelding! He said if he’s half as good as Lord thinks he is then we’ll be ok !!

We’ve arranged some other trips in October to see Hughie (who had two Group 3 winners yesterday) and Surrey Belle, plus we’ve arranged a joint trip to see both Surrey Fortune and Surrey Knight who are residing 6 miles apart in Northamptonshire.

Surrey Fortune is enjoying the fresh grass from the recent rains but now he needs to go on the walker to lose some of his belly !  Surrey Knight is spending some more time out in the field with a few friends for company. He’s taken on the role of protector – when the other horses have a lay down he stands on guard – very much the alpha male.

Surrey Mist wasn’t entered into Newmarket next week as the forecast is for faster ground so he’ll probably have an entry to Kempton and run on Wednesday 28th. Surrey Gold will be moving to Cornwall this week where he will spend the next 6 months in rehab and then we will make sure we find him a very good home. No news from Nicky H, we are hoping Gran Luna has been entered into the sale at the end of November – alongside Saffron Beach who will surely be top lot at the sale.

No new news re Surrey Noir and Surrey Charm is being pampered at Langshot Stud judging by some recent pictures.

Sales season is ongoing and thanks to the responses this week – maybe enough interest to buy one yearling. We’ve been corresponding with Tom Wilson from https://racingsquared.com/ about his analytical approach to buying horses for his syndicate NG Racing. This is one stat we found fairly interesting – data used from the past 3 years of yearling sales. It does show how hard it is to buy a really quality horse without spending vast amounts of money.
