End of Q3 update

Another quiet week but good to hear some of the owners reporting back from visits to see their horses. If you can’t make some of the organised mornings on the gallops the trainers are very accommodating and welcome visits – all they do ask is that you make the requests through us and give a few days notice.

Surrey Belle had a visit this week and I think the biggest takeaway is what an imposing horse she is. She weighs 520 kg and is 16.3 hands tall which is the same size as Surrey Lord and he’s an impressive 4 year old gelding!  At that size it’s going to take time (which isn’t a surprise) and Hughie is the right person for that, but we are going to have to be very patient – it’s really not that important about where she is now but where she eventually gets to.

Surrey Knight had a visit this week and it was good to see pictures of him looking very relaxed and enjoying life out in the paddock. We are looking forward to seeing both horses with the syndicate owners next month where we will get more idea of the next steps for both.

Surrey Fortune is well but now the weather is starting to get a little cooler he’s will be brought back in from the field. Billy will take things slowly with him for the next three/four weeks where he will be on a walker to tighten up his muscles and then in about a month’s time he’ll be ridden again and continue to build his fitness.

Surrey Mist has been working better on the Limekilns grass gallop rather than the Al Bahathri all weather so Kevin would rather a run on grass, therefore he missed his date with Kempton and will now head (subject to the ground) to Windsor in 8 days time (Oct 3rd) for a 0-95 class 3 handicap over 1m 3f. Apparently he has filled out over the past few weeks which is a good sign, we can’t wait to see him back racing.

Surrey Gold arrived in Cornwall last Thursday and has settled in well at Jackie Du Plessis’s yard in Saltdean. He needs 8 weeks of walking before he can be turned out to grass and he’ll be given another 6 months of recovery before we work out where he goes.
