World Cup Fever

It was very sad to see Gran Luna walk around the Tattersalls Ring this week without any buyers really interested, a horse who had run 9 times with 8 of those finishing in the top 3 including 5 wins! However, the lack of black type in the breeding put off commercial breeders and so she sold for only 3,500 gns. The good news is that she was bought by Peter Nolan who actually sold Gran Luna to us. She’s going to be a mum at a farm in Wexford run by Peter who Nicky said will really look after her so apart from the price, it’s turned out really well.

Following last week’s Open Day at Langshot we have sold out of both Surrey Fire and Surrey Force. We have actually had to turn a couple of people down which is a shame but we do always sell out fairly quickly. A reminder that the monthly standing orders should be set up from this month.

The plan is to now buy a 2 year old in the Spring Breeze Up sales and more than likely that purchase (if we do actually buy) will go into training with Tom Clover in Newmarket.

Surrey Mist has returned to training after his 5 week break and looks to be in good form. Kevin will slowly build him up but so far we are on track to race in Paris in the spring – you are all welcome to come and support him at a lovely course in a great setting.

Some decent news this week on the injuries. Surrey Noir has had a very good week, he’s still only trotting but he has really enjoyed the exercise and hopefully now his troubles are behind him. Surrey Knight had a positive scan this week so he is moving in the right direction. Charlie assures us that the more we are patient now (as frustrating as that is) the more we will reap the benefits in the long run so he’ll stay out in the paddock until the end of the year and then he’ll start on the walker which will be a slow introduction to exercise.

Surrey Quest had his handicap mark lowered two pounds to 128 by the handicapper after his third place at Uttoxeter. We are pleasantly surprised by that, I don’t think we’ve ever finish in the top three and the mark lowered so that can only make him more competitive next time out which will be in a few weeks time, hopefully we get one more Surrey Racing appearance before the year is out.

Not much news with the others, they are all well and progressing nicely.

Enjoy the football !
