2 from 2 for Gran Luna!
Given a patient ride by Nico de Boinville she traveled and jumped well until she was clattered from behind with 4 flights remaining. It seemed to put her off her stride and took a few more hurdles to get back running again. She was actually headed after the last but produced a very gutsy fightback to win going away. Considering this was her first ever race over obstacles it was more than impressive and bodes well for the season ahead.
She will definitely learn from the race – and for sure bigger and better races will follow. Champion Trainer Nicky Henderson said after the race,
“I’m not sure what happened but it seemed to unnerve Gran Luna for a bit. She blew up at the last which is a bad time when you need a second win and you’re that closer to the finish. Like a ton of ours she just needed it and was stuffy. I would have thought a listed novice for mares is the next step”.
