June 25th Update

We certainly enjoyed Royal Ascot but a real shame that we didn’t have any runners this year, onwards and upwards and fingers crossed for plenty in the 2024 version. The owners enjoyed our latest festival tipping competition. although Interestingly, if you had £1 win on every runner in every race at Ascot this week on Betfair sp you would have won over £620 (profit) !! Our trainers had some good performances but Tom Clover fared the best with the only winner of our bunch, winning the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge. He fared better than Godolphin, who had their first winless Ascot since 2006.

In the news this week, Surrey Belle received her opening mark of 64, maybe one or two pounds higher than we had hoped but still a competitive level although she’ll need a few more weeks before she runs again. That’s three horses now who have yet to appear in a handicap with opening marks, Belle, Surrey Charm who is rated 58, and Surrey Noir who is rated 69.

We could see Surrey Noir on Thursday as he is entered into a class 5 handicap (0-70) over 7 furlongs at Leicester, currently scheduled at 18.45 with James Doyle booked to ride. Leicester going is good to soft at the moment, with showers around, hopefully not too many, so there’s a very good chance he’ll be running. Leicester does pose a test of stamina (especially on soft ground) as the 2 of the last 3 furlongs are uphill but Charlie seems more convinced that 7 furlongs is the right distance for Noir.

Surrey Charm is back on the gallops, she worked on the grass yesterday morning and so, all going well will be back on the track mid July.

No new news on the horses that have yet to run – same week as the week before for them, a quiet news week.

Best wishes to the Noir owners for Thursday – time to get the winners back on board.
