Glorious Goodwood

Another fairly quiet week without too much happening at Surrey Racing HQ.

This week, we will have our first every runner at Glorious Goodwood as Surrey Mist will be declared tomorrow into Wednesday’s Coral Handicap, the first race on the card, a class 2 over 12 furlongs with Hollie Doyle in the saddle.  Steve and I feel that to win one of these decent races we need more than a jockey booking to be in a our favour. However, the team at George’s have pointed out that Mist is in great shape and we could wait for rain that never comes or he could hit a flat spot as he’s been on the go for most of the year so with a little reluctance we have gone with George’s recommendation. He will need a break after for a recharge.

If you do want to enter Nicky’s Goodwood tipping competition there’s still time with the pot now at £840 – drop her an email on  hassle04@icloud.com – it’s only £20 for a whole week of fun!

Sticking with Robin’s Farm, Surrey Charm has a bruised heal which has kept her off solid work for a week or so. We’d like to give her one more run to get handicapped and then she’ll have a break but sometimes these type of knocks can take a few weeks to heal so we’ll make a call next week on whether to let her have a break now.

Surrey Knight should have completed his laser therapy so he’ll be moving to Sophie Buckley’s rehab farm this week. He’s been a good patient so far which I’m sure will continue with a change of scenery and a move to Culworth Grounds Farm where he won’t be just out in a field. Plenty of work, stretching his tendons and getting him ready to start back on the racetrack all over again.

There’s not too much to add on the other horses as there hasn’t been a change in what they are doing. August looks set to be a very quiet month for us and then in September we should hopefully see Surrey Noir on the racetrack, the return of Surrey Gold and the start of the yearling sales. At the sales we will be looking to buy at least 3 yearlings and our thoughts on trainers for those will be Tom Clover in Newmarket, one to Hughie and we have a few other options including possibly Alan King who trains at Wroughton in Wiltshire. We have also started to investigate having a horse (or horses) based in France where the prize money is so much better than the UK, and the competition not as great.

As always when we finalise plans we will canvass what intertest we have from existing syndicate owners and those already on a yearling waiting list. Please get in touch to avoid disappointment!

Enjoy Glorious Goodwood and good luck to the Misters!
