It’s Coming Home!

Our first ever Glorious Goodwood runner unfortunately performed pretty much how we thought he may with Surrey Mist progressively getting worse on ever firmer ground since his run in the London Cup at Newbury. Goodwood is such a beautiful course and the summer festival is really one of the best events in racing, the syndicate owners enjoyed a lovely day but we would still like to only compete in these big handicaps when we know the conditions are in our favour.

Moving on, it was sad to read that Joe Tuite is giving up training for financial reasons. He trained our first ever winner with Surrey Hope under a young Oisin Murphy and was instrumental in helping us in our formative years. He has given us so many good times on the racecourse including a 5th place with Surrey Thunder in the German Derby, a listed winner with the same horse in Clairefontaine, 5 winners with Surrey Blaze including a hattrick, and a brilliant York winner with Surrey Pride. We have sent on our wishes and wish him and his family well.

The gorgeous Surrey Lord is back being ridden and he looks fantastic. He has certainly grown up a lot for his summer break. Toby will spend the next few weeks just playing around with him, trotting, showing him a bit more of the world and building up some core fitness. There is no hurry with him whatsoever but he now he has had a it will be good to give him something to occupy his mind a little.

Surrey Fortune has now been turned out into a big paddock and will enjoy his time in the sun for as long as he needs. Billy is really happy with him and welcomes anyone over to see his newly completed yard (his concrete has finally been delivered!) with his flagship horse!

Surrey Noir continues to really please Charlie at home and is doing lots of nice long canters but is still not ready to step up any further from what he is doing at the moment. He had another trip down the Al Bahathri last week where he looked fantastic but patience is the key.

No decision has been made on Surrey Charm yet - that will come later in the week as we would like to give her another spin before a break to get the handicap mark which in turn opens up new options.

Surrey Gold is now having two canters a week with a view to returning in September while Surrey Belle has been pleasing Hughie but he feels they have asked a lot of her so he’ll give her August off. She will then come back into training in September aiming for a late October debut.

After the holidays we will look to try and arrange some visits to all the trainers but August could be a very quiet month for Surrey Racing but we will hopefully hit the ground hard in September.
