Hot, Hot , Hot

I hope you keeping cool!

The horses in training are all working before 8am to beat the rising temperatures and I do feel that racing should be abandoned for the next two days.

There isn’t a great deal to report on this week.

Surrey Noir has been impressing on the gallops, we even got a call from Matt Coleman saying how nice he is, let’s hope he has an engine to match!  Charlie is very happy with him, his work is being gradually stepped up and that will continue as long as Noir is happy with the extra load. He has really grown, looks the part and has a wonderful temperament. Charlie decided to confirm the current entries at Doncaster and Redcar at the latest stage. We did question Charlie on whether the Doncaster race in particular could be a wasted entry but he feels it was the right thing to do as he won’t be a million miles off from being ready. He did say it was touch and go but if he was ready in 6 weeks time (which isn’t out of the question) then that Doncaster race does come into the equation. Matt thought he’d be a 7f horse this year, and a mile next year and agreed with Charlie’s assessment that September time looked about right from what he was doing now.

Surrey Lord is another who is impressing but mainly by his looks and presence as he’s only in a field right now. He’s putting on plenty of condition so Toby feels that he should have his shoes put back next week on and will just start some very light work. Toby and tip away with him so he can learn his trade. The plan is still for spring bumpers and then a longer break next year but plans can change if Toby feels Lord is more forward.

Surrey Mist is well and having had discussions with George and his team we all feel that he’s going to be better suited to 12 furlongs and longer so the race we will be entering at Glorious Goodwood is the Coral Handicap, the first race on the Wednesday of the meeting. However, Steve and I feel that (as much as we’d love a runner at the meeting) to be competitive we need give in the ground (not watered but rain softened) so we are prepared to wait for a better chance elsewhere. Looking at the current forecast it looks probable we will sidestep Goodwood.

Surrey Knight’s laser treatment has gone well, he’s been a good patient and responding o he will probably move to Culworth Farm for his rehab within the next 7-10 days.

No real news on the others although it was good to see more improvements to Surrey Belle’s pedigree page with her cousins performing very well recently with Point Gellibrand winning in Leopardstown this week and Pretty Tiger coming second in the Group 1 Prix Ganay and 3rd in the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan in May.

Have a super week ahead
